Entering their 50th season the Minnesota Twins moved into a majestic ball park called Target Field and won the AL Central Division with a 94-68 record. Unfortunately they fell to the New York Yankees in three games in the divisional round once - again enduring a disappointing postseason. The problem that the Twins have is that they cannot get by the Yankees and even though they had home field advantage they could not muster one victory. Entering the 2011 season the Minnesota Twins are once again favorites to win the Central. With a solid nucleus in place the ball club will be looking for their seventh division championship in ten seasons.

Homegrown Joe Mauer is the most popular player on the club. The Saint Paul native hit .327 with nine homeruns and seventy-five runs batted in last year. Fans know he is a hard working catcher who toughs it out each season. The cavernous Target Field dimension made it difficult for him to hit home runs as he only had one all year. He had off-season knee surgery and has had issues with his shoulder, back, and hip as well playing in 137 games. Hopefully he will stay healthy in 2011 and lead a run deep into the postseason. Everyone knows that Catchers suffer a lot of wear and tear so it is imperative that Mauer not push him self too much and risk further injury. His home runs numbers should improve with a year under his belt in the new facility. Ten home runs should be the minimum total for this season. If you want seats for this years campaign we have a great selection to choose from. Left fielder Delmon Young had a breakout season in 2010. He played in one hundred fifty three games hitting twenty one home runs, knocking in one hundred twenty one runs, and hitting .298. He hits right and left handed pitchers well as he knocked forty six doubles. He is a career .292 hitter and started getting some power numbers toward the end of the 2009 (which carried over to last year). He does not take walks often but is a very good contact hitter. The Twins are relying on Young to have another good season. His numbers have risen steadily each season and he is a disciplined enough hitter to improve this season. Playing in one hundred fifty three games was a major improvement from the previous one hundred and eight games. Check out our great selection of Minnesota Twins Tickets.

Right fielder Jason Kubel had a good season hitting twenty one home runs, ninety two runs batted in, and hitting .249. His numbers in 2009 were better overall across the board as his batting average suffered a big decline by fifty one points. He does not hit left handed pitchers well but his batting average should improve on last season. Kubel is pretty reliable to play as he has averaged over one hundred forty games played the past three seasons. Many hitters are realizing that the ballpark is a tough place to hit for power so I don't know if Jason's home run total will improve. He never has hit more than twenty eight home runs and that was in the Metrodome which every one knows is a power park. Look for numbers that are around the twenty home run area but an improved batting average for the 2011 campaign. Veteran Jim Thome put in an another solid season with twenty five home runs, fifty nine runs batted in, and a .283 batting average. He will mostly be a designated hitter for the 2011 season and combined with part time rest there is no reason to believe that he cannot put up similar numbers. He had some back issues the last two months of the season so that may be an issue this year. In terms of hitting right handed pitchers he is tremendous as he was only second to Josh Hamilton in efficiency. He had five hundred and eighty nine career home runs so hitting the six hundred mark this season would be a great accomplishment. In this era of the home run ball and performance enhancing drugs Thome has been a rock of a player and is looked at legitimately. He may have one or two good seasons left so he is looking to seize the opportunity now. Target Field is one of the best ballparks in Major League Baseball. The inaugural season was last year and it holds approximately 40,000 people. ESPN the magazine ranked it the number one facility in professional sports in the USA and Canada. With a construction cost of around five hundred and forty five million Target Field boasts a twenty foot tall and fifty foot wide high definition board above the right field grandstands which serves as the main board for the facility. There are approximately nineteen thousand lower level seats, fifty four private suites, and seven thousand club seats. With the mix of Target Plaza and prominent bars and restaurants the facility is tremendous. It was announced that there were renovations done to improve the ballpark following last year. Carl Pavano will be entering his thirteenth season in the bigs and will be the number one starter in the pitching rotation. Francisco Liriano, Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey, Nick Blackburn, and Brian Duensing will make up the group of starters most likely. Manager Ron Gardenhire will be back for his tenth season. He has failed to lead the Twins to the division title only three times in career. Unfortunately out of the six times they won the division they only made it to the championship series once. We have nice seats for home games and road games making up one hundred and sixty two dates. It looks like the divisional race will be between Minnesota and Chicago. If the club does manage to win the crown again their postseason failures is something they have to somehow overcome. The Twins have had good regular season success but it seems like they will have to go thru the Yankees or Red Sox to make it out of the American League in 2012. Target field has nice sight lines and atmosphere for fans so get your Minnesota Twins Tickets for a great summer experience.
